Multiply both sides of the equation by 8, the least common multiple of 4,8. (in doing this you get all the fractions to whole numbers (they are easier to work with))

−6=2×3x+11

Multiply 2 and 3 to get 6

−6=6x+11

Swap sides so that all variable terms are on the left hand side.

6x+11=−6

Subtract 11 from both sides.

6x=−6−11

Subtract 11 from −6 to get −17.

6x=−17

Divide both sides by 6.
