Complete Question:

The area of a trapezium is 400 cm2, the distance between the parallel sides is 16 cm. If one of the parallel sides is 20 cm, then the length of the other side is ______

Answer:

Side\ 2 = 30cm

Explanation:

Given

A= 400cm^2 --- Area

h = 16cm --- Height

Side\ 1=20cm

Required

The length of the other side (Side 2)

The area of a trapezium is:

A = (1)/(2)(Side\ 1 + Side\ 2) * h

400 = (1)/(2)(20 + Side\ 2) * 16

400 = (20 + Side\ 2) * 8

Divide both sides by 8

50 = 20 + Side\ 2

Collect Like Terms

Side\ 2 = 50 - 20

Side\ 2 = 30cm
