Answer:

X= -3 Y= 8

Explanation:

x + 19 = 2y

5x - 1 = -2y

the 2y will cancel out and you are left with solving the rest of the equation.

5x+x = 6x

19 + (-1)= 18

6x + 18= 0

6x = -18

Divide by 6 on both sides

X= -3

Go back and replace -3 in either equation

-3 + 19 = 2Y

16 = 2Y

Divide both sides by 2

8=y

Check your work

-3 + 19 = 2(8)

16=16 True

5(-3) + 2(8)= 1

-15 + 16= 1 True
