Explanation:

Given endpoints (x₁, y₁ ) and (x₂, y₂ ) then the midpoint is

(
(x_(1)+x_(2) )/(2) ,
(y_(1)+y_(2) )/(2) )

let the coordinates of X be (x, y ) then equate to the coordinates of midpoint


(x-2)/(2) = 8 ( multiply both sides by 2 )

x - 2 = 16 ( add 2 to both sides )

x = 18

and


(y-4)/(2) = - 2 ( multiply both sides by 2 )

y - 4 = - 4 ( add 4 to both sides )

y = 0

coordinates of X = (18, 0 )
