Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery however, the new senate and House of representatives COMPROMISED for the 3/5th compromise. The south figured since the bigger the population, the more representatives. They wanted to count their slaves as “people” so they can have more representatives in the house but, the North disagrees but came to a compromise (which was the 3/5th compromise). For every 5 slaves, it counts as 3 reps. in the house
