the goal is to get y on one side and everything else on the other side

step 1 subtract 4x from each side

4x-4x cancels out

now we have

5y=-4x-6

step 2 divide each side by 5

5/5 cancels out

now we have


y=(-4)/(5)x + (6)/(5)

we can conclude that the slope is


-(4)/(5)
