first you will write the expression as gx cause g multiplied x is equal to x-2.

Explanation:

gx=x-2

then you group like terms which simply means you will send x to be with gx.

so your expression will be gx- x = -2.

the you factorize.

x(g-1) = -2

then you divide both sides by g-1

so your expression now will be

x(g-1)/g-1 =-2/g-1

the g-1 will cancel the other g-1 by x

x= -2/g-1
