but we are given 36 as cylinder volume.

Therefore , 36 = pi*r2* height

r2*height = 36/pi, let call this equation 1

volume of a cone = pi*r2*height/3;

but from equation 1, r2*height =36/pi, substituting this value in volume of cone.

volume of cone= pi*(36/pi)/3 = 12 cubic inches
