i didnt solve the question how a teacher would want you to solve it but who cares this is how i solved it:

so you need to find how many more people you would be servering so 36-24 which equals 12. so your serving 12 more people than in the original recipe. 12 happens to be half of 24 which is the amount of people the recipe servers, so that means you need to add half of what you need in the normal recipe so half of 6, which is 3. so then you 6+3 which equals 9.
