Explanation:

Area of ABCD (of the rectangle)

Given length = 40m

Given breadth = 20m

Area = Length × breadth

= 40m × 20m

= 800m^2

External path = 3m wide

Length =40m+3m+3m=46m

Breadth = 25m+3m+3m= 31m

Area of PQRS= Length × breadth

46m ×31m = 1426m^2

Area of path = Area of PQRS - Area of ABCD

= 1426m^2 - 800m^2

= 626m^2

The area of the path is 626 square meters.
