Explanation:

x1 = -3

y1 = 1

x2 = -1

y2 = 0

now

m = rise/run = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (0-1)/(-1+3) = -1/2

so

y = mx + b

0 = -1/2(-1) + b

or, 0 = 1/2 + b

or, 0-1/2 = b

so, b = -1/2

so

y = mx + b

y = -x /2+ -1/2

or, y = (-x-1)/2
