Three years ago ,a father was four times as old as his son now .the product of their present ages is 430years .calculate the sum of their present age​

Let the father’s age be x and the son’s age be y . The first statement can be expressed as x−3=y×4 . The second statement can be expressed as x×y=430 . From there, it’s pretty easy to solve — although it involves some annoying algebra. x=y×4+3 which you can substitute into the second equation to get 4y2+3y=430 . Use the quadratic formula to solve for y . Solve for x . Calculate x+y .
