y = 2 - 5x .................eqn 3

put eqn 3 into eqn 2

x + 2 - 5x = 10

x - 5x = 10 - 2

-4x = 8

x = 8 / -4

x = -2

put x = -2 into eqn 1

5x + y = 2

5(-2) + y = 2

-10 + y = 2

y = 2 + 10

y = 12
