x=0.58, x= -1.38

Quadratic formula is:
(-b-/+ sqrt b^2-4ac)/2a

We need to get the function to equal zero so we subtract 4 from both sides.

5x^2+4x-4=0 is out new equation.

a=5, b=4 and c=-4

Now we can solve by plugging in the variables!

-4+ sqrt 4^2-4(5)(-4)/2(5)= 0.5797

Do the same with subtracting because of the plus OR minus

-4-sqrt 4^2-4(5)(-4)/2(5)= -1.3797

Rounded to the nearest 100th will be:

x= -1.38, x=0.58

You can check your answer by plugging them back into the original function— you should get zero. :)
