we need to distribute first because we cannot combine the things inside of the parentheses

-10 - 12x < 48 -12x

now we need to combine like numbers!

0 (this is -12x + 12x) < 58 (this is 48 + 10)

oh no! x is not given to us in this equation! don't worry though, because this means that x can be any single number. why?

  • -12x is on both sides which means that it doesn't matter the value of x, the value will always be the same.
