Answer:

Experiment to demonstrate diffusion

  • materials:a 250cm³ glass beaker,a long tube,a holed rubber bung or stopper,a colored crystal such as potassium permanganate and water.
  • method: set up the experiment
  1. first insert one end of the tube halfway into the rubber stopper
  2. place the rubber stopper and glass tube into the beaker, keeping the rubber firmly pressed to the bottom
  3. introduce the colored crystal of potassium permanganate down the tube
  4. close the open end of the glass tube with a finger and fill the beaker halfway with water
  5. with one end of the glass tube still closed, gently lift the glass tube and rubber stopper out of the beaker without disturbing the crystal
  6. observe what happens in the beaker until there are no further changes
  • observation:
  1. at the beginning, the clear water and colored crystal are each clearly visible
  2. after sometime, the color of the crystal starts spreading out of the water still remains clear
  3. eventually, all the water is evenly colored by the color of the crystal
  • conclusion
  1. the particles spread out in the water by the process of diffusion.

I hope this helps
