5d-3=3d+7 and now we just solve for d

step 1 subtract 3d from each side

5d-3d=2d

3d-3d cancels out

now we have

2d-3=7

step 2 add 3 to each side

-3+3 cancels out

3+7=10

now we have

2d=10

step 3 divide each side by 2

2/2 cancels out

10/2=5

d=5

Now we just plug in 5 for d for side bc

3x5=15

15+7=22

so BC = 22
