in the case of regular verbs (-ed) Rule 1: The –ed ending sounds like “t” if the verb base ends in a voiceless tone. The “t” is merged with the preceding consonant rather than being pronounced as a separate syllable. Rule 2: If the verb base ends in a voiced tone, the –ed ending is pronounced as “d.”
