Explanation:

Because the lines in the parallelogram are intersecting perpendicularly, each line is equal to the opposite line.

For example,

6y + 1 = 4y + 9

and

2x - 5 = x + 7

So, now we just solve both of those equations.

We'll start with the first one :)

6y + 1 = 4y + 9

6y + 1 - 4y = 4y + 9 = 4y

2y + 1 = 9

2y + 1 - 1 = 9 - 1

2y = 8

y = 4

now onto the second equation :)

2x - 5 = x + 7

2x - 5 - x = x + 7 - x

x - 5 = 7

x - 5 + 5 = 7 + 5

x = 12
