Are lines of longitude closest to each other at the equator

The distance between longitudes narrows further away from the equator. As you move toward the poles, the distance between each line of longitude becomes smaller until they converge at the North and South Poles. The distance between longitudes at the equator is the same as latitude, roughly 69 miles.
