11/8 or 1 3/8

Explanation:

first you have to change the denominator to 8 in the 3/4, so that means you have to change the numerator too.

that gets you 6/8, so the new equation is

6/8+5/8

you only have to add the numerators, so it gives you 11/8.

to change it to a mixed number, all you have to do is find how many whole numbers (aka 8/8 in this situation) go into your improper fraction, and there is 1 in ours. you set that aside and you get 3/8 left over. You put those together and get 1 3/8
