NEED HELP ASAP

The floor area of a rectangular room is represented by x2 + 3xy – 10y2. What could the length and width be?

Answer:

The length is x + 5y

The width is x - 2y

The point of this question is to factor the trinomial. It can be factored.

(x 5y)(x 2y )

has to be the beginning of the factoring process.

(x - 5y)(x + 2y) The signs are right. The factoring isn't. The middle term has to be plus.

(x + 5y)(x - 2y)

The length is x + 5y

The width is x - 2y

x must be larger than 2y, otherwise you will get a negative width. That cannot be right.
