2 numbers to find are a and b

We have: a - b = 12; a = 3b

=> a = 18; b = 6

Answer:

Let the two numbers be X

The great number is X and the smaller number is 3X

X=3X

X-3X=12

-2X=12

X=12/-2

X=-6

The other number =3*6=18
