Ken bought 2 video games and 1 DVD for a total of $105. Jerome bought 1 video game and 4 DVDs for a total of $80. Which system of equations can be

used to find the cost, in dollars, of each video game (v) and each DVD (d) at the store?

Answer:

2v + 1d = 105

and

1v + 4d = 80

Explanation:

ken : 2v + 1d = 105

Jerome : 1v + 4d = 80

1v + 4d = 80 Try to get a video games by its self

- 4d -4d

1v = 80 - 4d

Plug into kens equation..

2(80 -4d) + 1d = 105

160 - 8d + 1d = 105

-160 -160

-7d = -55

/-7 /-7

d = 7.86 (rounded)

Plug into Jeromes equation

1(7.86) + 4v = 80

- 7.86 - 7.86

4v = 72.14

/4 /4

v = 18.035 (round = 18)
