if you put a 4 in front of H2O it means you will have 8 hydrogens(you multiply 4 by 2) then the oxygens will be 4..on the other side that hydrogen in the brackets holds it's on 4 so that 4 isn't for both the hydrogen and the oxygen...and if you put a 4 in front of the HCl that simply means it's for both the hydrogen and oxygen.
