substitute for y:

2x + 3(10 - 2x) = 20

2x + 30 - 6x = 20

reduce:

-4x = -10

divide both sides by -4:

y = 10 - 2(2.5) = 5

check:

2(2.5) + 3(5) = 20

20 = 20

and

2(2.5) + 5 = 10

10 = 10
