I'm having trouble solving the system of linear equations. This is the system: 5x + 6y = 50 x - 6y = -26 Can you please help me? Don't give the answer, but can you just explain?

y = 5 ; x = 4

Explanation:

Given :

5x + 6y = 50 - - - (1)

x - 6y = -26 - - - (2)

From (2)

x = - 26 + 6y

Put - 26 + 6y for x in (1)

5(-26 + 6y) + 6y = 50

-130 + 30y + 6y = 50

-130 + 36y = 50

-130 - 50 = - 36y

-180 = - 36y

y = 180 / 36

y = 5

Put y =5 in x = - 26 + 6y

x = - 26 + 6(5)

x = - 26 + 30

x = 4

y = 5 ; x = 4
