An engineer designs a cylindrical tank to have a capacity of 4356 cubic inches.

The tank has a diameter of d = 18.5 in. What is the height (h) of the tank to the
nearest tenth of an inch?

Explanation:

Vol. of cylindrical tank = Bh, where B is the area of the base

Since the base is a circle, B =
\pi r^(2)

r = 18.5/2 = 9.25 and let's use 3.14 for π

So. 4356 =
3.14(9.25^(2) ) h

= 268.66625h

h = 4356/268.66625

h = 16.2134... = 16.2 in to the nearest tenth of an inch
