2). When you add together the 1 and 3, you will recieve the value of 4

3).In order to get the x attached to the coefficient 2 isolated you have to divide 2 on both sides

4.) 2x = 4

5). 2x/2 = x

6). 4/2 = 2

Therefore x=2

first add 3 to both sides to get rid of the three on the left side

2x = 4

then divide 2 from both sides since it is the opposite of the operation shown then you'll get x = 2 when dividing to on the left side you get rid of it because you are trying to get rid of as much of the numbers as possible.
