What were some of the most important minority movements in the nation’s history, and what did these movements achieve?
These are the 3 most successful movements which are; The Brown decision in 1954, The Civil Rights Act of 1964, and The Voting Rights Act in 1965. The Brown decision in 1954 was a movement for the segregation of children in public schools. They believed that it was unconstitutional for White children and black children to be separated because of race. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a movement for the rights of all people of all colors, this movement said that " No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Lastly, The Voting Rights Act in 1965. This movement was to Allow African people to have no issues voting. they did this by banning poll taxes, literacy tests, and other measures that effectively prevented African Americans from voting.
