Given

2x + 20 = 6x - 12 ( subtract 2x from both sides )

20 = 4x - 12 ( add 12 to both sides )

32 = 4x ( divide both sides by 4 )

8 = x

=> 2x + 20 = 6x - 12

=> 20 + 12 = 6x - 2x

=> 32 = 4x

=> x =32/4

=> x = 8
