The outline is a general plan of all the facts that one is going to mention in a piece of writing. The outline shows the order of information contained in each paragraph of a piece of writing.
A traditional, topic based outline is used for discursive topics while a chronological outline is more suited for instruction manuals, timelines etc.
An essay about the dangers of texting and driving would most likely require the use of a traditional, topic- based outline as opposed to a chronological outline.
