HELP!!!!!!! I do not understand when to insert parentheses!!!

example: evaluate m² - m³ - m⁴ If m = -1
Do I put parentheses If so WHERE? Inside or outside of the negative sign?
If there is a rule to this PLEASE explain!!!

Put ( ) around input only.

Insert (-1) for m.

You only put parenthesis around just and only the input. So you are replacing m with (-1) and leaving everything else just the same.

m² - m³ - m⁴

(-1)² - (-1)³ - (-1)⁴
