Is (4, 2) a solution to the system y-x=2 and -3x-2y=-8?

It is only a solution to y = x - 2, not -3x - 2y = -8

Explanation:

I) Check y = x - 2:

y = x - 2

2 = 4 - 2

As you can see, (4, 2) is a solution to this system.

II) Check -3x - 2y = -8:

-3x - 2y = -8

(-3)(4) - (2)(2) = -8

-12 - 4 =/= 8

-12 - 4 = -16, not 8. So (4, 2) is not a solution to this system.
