5x+y =8 ...(1)

x+4y=2 ...(2)

Multiply equation (2) by 5.

5x+20y=10 ..(3)

Subtract equation (1) from (3).

5x+20y-(5x+y) = 10-8

5x+20y-5x-y = 2

19y = 2

y = 0.105

Put the value of y in equation (2).

x+4(0.105)=2

x = 2-0.42

x = 1.58

Hence, the values of x and y are 1.58 and 0.105.
