How many of each animal are in the field?

Let number of horses be x, number of geese be y
x+y=18
4x+ 2y = 56
Substituting in Equation 1 into 2,
4x + 2y - 2(x+y) = 56-2(18)
2x = 20
x = 10
when x= 10, y= 8
