QUESTION: Chapter 2 is mostly about Tom and his party while Chapter 3 focuses on Gatsby and his party. Even though the parties were different, how are the parties similar?

Short answer - Tom uses his party as a means of showing off his wealth/status, Gatsby throws his party in order to win Daisy over - but they are similar in that both men are concerned with outward appearances and how they look to others. You can take this general idea and expand it into a longer paragraph.
