A magnet and a coil of wire can be used to produce an electric current. A voltage is produced when a magnet moves into a coil of wire. This process is called electromagnetic induction .

As long as the magnet is moving ...

... there is voltage between the ends of the wire in the coil, and

... if there is any kind of conductor between the ends, then there is current flowing through the coil.
