I assume that this is a right triangle. For right triangles, C is the hypotenuse, always the longest side.
Pythagorean Theorem:
1. a^2 + b^2 = c^2
2. 72^2 + 30^2 = c^2
3. sqrt(6084) = sqrt(c^2)
4. c = 78, as expected for being the longest side.
