Slaked lime or Ca(OH)2 is used for white washing the walls. But when Ca(OH)2 react with CO2, it gives Calcium Carbonate and water which gives a smooth finishing to the walls. ... When this paste is used for white washing it combines with atmospheric CO2 to form calcium carbonate (CaCO3) which gives it a shiny texture.
