Step 1: Go to desmos graphing calculator

Step 2: Insert a table

Step 3: Insert values into the table (shown in image) using the north latitude as the x value and jan mean temp as y value

Step 4: Go to line 2, and type "
y_1 = mx_1 + b" except replace "=" with ~ as shown in the image. Put the 1s as subscripts

Step 5: Scroll out. Desmos would've graphed the line of best fit and plotted the points. Under statistics, you can see that r is the correlation coefficient

Step 6: The correlation coefficient r will be between -1 and 1. If it is closer to -1 or 1, it is a strong correlation. If it is closer to 0, it is a weak correlation. For example. -0.6 is closer to -1 than it is to 0, so it is a strong negative correlation. You can see that r here is -0.8566, which is strong negative.

Step 7: Lastly, you need to make the equation. It will be in the form y = mx + b. If you look under "parameters", there will be a value for m and b. Plug that in to the equation. Check to see if you need to round.
