since the volume of the prism is 12 (2x2x3), and the volume of the cubes is 1/8 (1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2), you would multiply divide 12 by 1/8 to find the number of cubes you need

12 x 8 equals 96, meaning you need 96 cubes
