Ratio of adults to children = 3 : 11

Let

x = number of adults at the party

32 + x = number of children at the party

Ratio of adults to children = x : (32 + x

Equate both ratios

3 : 11 = x : 32 + x

3/11 = x : (32 + x)

Cross product

3 * (32 + x) = 11 * x

96 + 3x = 11x

96 = 11x - 3x

96 = 8x

x = 96/8

x = 12

x = number of adults at the party = 12
