Explanation:

volume of box:

4 x 2 = 8sq2

8 x 1 = 8sq3

volume of cubes:

1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4sq2

1/4 x 1/2 = 1/8sq3

8 sq 3 / (1/8)sq3 = 64
