In President Franklin Roosevelt's Four Freedoms speech, Roosevelt expresses four essential freedoms for every person which include, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom from fear, and freedom from want. Freedom of religion is the freedom to worship God any way they wanted. Furthermore, freedom of speech is the right to express yourself, even if it is against the government. The freedom from fear expressed in his speech means that no nation should result in the aggression of other nations. Lastly, the freedom of want is the ability to have healthy peacetime when all nations have economic understandings.

President Roosevelt believed that these freedoms: freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of fear, and freedom of want, were all being threatened by the way America reacted to war. Roosevelt states that a good society is able to act upon discrimination and revolutions without fear. He states that since the beginning of American history, we have feared corrupt nations that set up concentration camps or quick-lime in the ditch. He also says that we didn't realize how America is a free country in which we can help other countries become free as well.

Freedom of speech which means you can have the freedom to express yourself. Freedom of religion which means you can choose your own religion. Freedom from want, which basically means you don't have to worry about basic things such as when you're going to get your next meal or something. Freedom from fear which means that no nation would commit an act of physical aggression against another. FDR believed that these freedoms were threatened because of the current way that America was acting towards wars. He felt that American's believed that they were overpowered and could take down any other country. He was trying to show that they needed help from other nations and why they should move on from the previous policies they had in WW1. He also chose to make this speech since he knew everyone would be listening.
