Can someone please explain how the answer is 29 I was absent so I don’t know how to solve it

these are vertical angles so they are congruent
2x+17=5x-16
-17 -17

2x = 5x -33
-5x -5x
——————-
-3x = -33
—— —-
-3 -3

x = 11

Okay so you would just set the equations equal to each other.

2x+71=5x-16
Solve that you get -3x=-87
Divide 87 by 3 and you get 29 :)
