Let total area of field be = 1 whole

area is covered by a pumpkin patch =3/5

area is covered by a cornfield =4/20

fraction of the total area of the farm is covered by the pumpkin patch and the cornfield combined

=area covered by a pumpkin patch+area covered by a cornfield

= 3/5 + 4/20

12+4/20

=16/20 = 4/5
