You and your friend each collect coins and stamps. Your friend collects one fifth as many coins and twice as many stamps as you. You collect a total of 70 coins and stamp. Your friend collects a total of 95 coins and stamps how many coins and stamps do each of you collect.

Let us assume the coins be x

Let us assume the stamps be y

For friend

The coins be 1 ÷ 5x = 0.2x

And, the stamps be 2y

Now the equations are

x + y = 70

y = 70 - x

Now put the value of y in other equation

0.2x + 2y = 95

0.2x + 2(70 - x) = 95

0.2x + 140 - 2x = 95

-1.8x = -45

x = 25

And, y = 70 - 25

= 45

And, for your friend it is

= 25 × 1 ÷ 5

= 5

And, the stamps be

y = 45 × 2

= 90

Hence, the coins and stamps do each of you collect is 25, 45, 5 and 90 respectively
