Alright, so let's start solving this

1. First we are going to be placing the x one one side and the constants (or the regular numbers) on the other side.

How to do that?

Well, we can take -3x and 20 to their other sides.

The reason for this is that we don't want to have the value with x as a negative

So we do

-3x-4 = 20

+3x -20 -20+3x

You may not understand what was about but all I did was just added 3x to both sides and subtracted 20 to both sides to make the new equation

-24 = 3x or 3x = -24

Now we can see that the x has a number it is being multiplied with so to get rid of the number we divide everything by 3

So

3x/3 = -24/3

Which results in x = -8 and voila, there is your answer!
