Naomi wants to buy a charm bracelet. Oakland Fine Jewelry charges $19 per charm, plus $89 for the bracelet. Freeman Jewelers, in contrast, charges $17 per charm and $93 for the bracelet. If Naomi wants to add a certain number of charms to her bracelet, the cost will be the same at either jewelry shop. How many charms would that be? What would the total cost of the bracelet be?

Answer:

The number of charms is 2

And, the total cost is $127

Explanation:

The computation of the number of charms and the total cost of the bracelet is shown below:

Let us assume the number of charms be x

Now the equations are

= 19x + 89

And,

= 17x + 93

Since the cost would be the same i.e.

19x + 89 = 17x + 93

19x - 17x = 93 - 89

2x = 4

x = 2

And, the total cost is

= 19(2) + 89

= 38 + 89

= $127
